Finding the best (and cheapest) car insurance company for your needs can be a bit of a daunting undertaking with so many options out there. Plus, once you sign up for one quote, you’re suddenly inundated with emails and mail about competing offers, hounding you with information until you finally cave and choose something.
According to CNET, here are the best insurances you can get from this past year.
Best Cheap Car Insurance Overall is Geico
For many, this likely won’t come as a surprise because Geico is constantly touting how affordable it is and that it’s one of the cheapest options out there. For CNET, that held true for this past year. One of the best things about Geico is that you can get reductions on your rates for many different things with a Geico policy, such as having safety equipment like antilock brakes and airbags in your car; if you have no counts on your license and are considered a “good,” safe driver; who your employer is; if you’ve taken a defensive driver class; and more.
Best Cheap Car Insurance for Military Service Members and Veterans is USAA
Often when looking for a provider that’s meant for military service members specifically, USAA is the top choice. This is really the only option on CNET’s list that has prices that are cheaper than what Geico provides policyholders. However, it is only available to active or former military service members or the family of former or current service members. As such, that limits who can apply to this insurance policy. Those who are eligible are able to save up to $707 per year based on expert research, and more than half reported they were very happy with the service.
Best Cheap Car Insurance for Seniors and Teens is Progressive
Most insurance policies see seniors and teen drivers as high risk drivers because those are historically the drivers who tend to get into accidents the most. Because of this, when you’re registering a senior or teen driver for a policy, you’ll likely experience a higher bump in your policy. CNET felt that Progressive was the best for these types of drivers because Progressive offers discounts specifically for teens and drivers over 75 years old. Using its Snapshot program, drivers download an app that will monitor their driving to show the policy that the person is actually not a high risk driver and is a safe driver.
