CNET announced its annual best cheap car insurances list of 2020, which we began covering in our previous post.
In that post, we discussed that the cheapest insurance deemed by CNET was Geico, which is known for its “Save 15% or more with Geico” tagline and offers a myriad of discounts for various policyholder. It’s probably no surprise to most that this was the cheapest available for those reasons. There was also the unsurprising cheapest for military service members and veterans, which is USAA. USAA is technically the cheapest available auto insurance provider, but it’s strictly for people who served in the military or are currently serving. And lastly, we discussed the best insurance for elderly and teen drivers, which is Progressive. And this is largely because Progressive offers competitive rates but it also offers a Snapshot tool, which is an app that can monitor peoples’ driving and show whether or not they are actually a high risk or safe driver.
Now here are the remaining topics that were covered by CNET’s best of list:
Best Cheap Car Insurance for Drivers With Spotty Records is The General
This is another one that many have heard of due to its catchy tagline and commercials (“Go to The General to save some time!”). With this insurance, CNET believes it is the best available option for those who might have some blemishes on their driving records. This could mean previous accidents or points on your license and other driving violations. Typically, insurance companies see those things and deem a driver as a high risk driver because the belief is that if they had a driving infraction in the past once before, it’s likely that it’ll happen again down the line. However, with The General, you’re offered a fair rate even when classified as a “nonstandard” driver and are afforded additional benefits. This includes a low down payment option as well as discounts based on safety equipment, driving record, and more (similar to what many other plans offer).
Best Cheap Car Insurance for Drivers With Low Credit Scores is Root Insurance Company
Having a low credit score can be one of those things that really comes back to haunt you, but luckily with this insurance provider, you don’t have to stress as much. It’s a relatively new company, but it’s one of the best in CNET’s opinion for those who have low scores. It uses its own monitoring program to monitor driving to offer discounted rates, and your credit score is never evaluated. It bases your prices on how you drive instead.
